Tegan & Angus: Private Property, Byron Bay Hinterland
Names: Tegan Martin and Angus Macpherson
Wedding date: 30/11/19
Ceremony & Reception Venue: Family home, Lindendale in the Byron Bay Hinterland
How we met and the marriage proposal: We met working together on Hamilton Island. We got engaged in Italy in a little hilltop town called Montepulciano after spending the day doing a winery tour. Angus proposed to me as the sun was setting in our beautiful B&B accommodation.
About our wedding day: Well… we broke the drought in Northern NSW! My parents and family that live nearby have been without a shower of rain in 6 months and their property was looking very dry and you can just imagine the stress this creates!
I had a lovely day getting ready with my family and bridesmaids and about an hour before the outdoor ceremony we had a storm come through. The weather cleared up for the ceremony and everything went according to plan. Guests arrived via buses and were served a glass of champagne on arrival.
Our celebrant was Angus’s Aunty and although we were both nervous, she made it very enjoyable and we laughed the majority of the way through.
After the ceremony our guests enjoyed pre-dinner drinks and food on the lawn while we had photos for about 30 mins. We were then introduced onto the lawn because we wanted to enjoy this time with the ones we loved, this was more important to us than hundreds of photos.
We had speeches before the guests were seated by the father of the bride and father of the groom.
We sat down for dinner inside what is normally a farm shed for a family shared style menu.
Then we had another storm pass through, 38mm of rain in 30 mins! Everyone got up from their chairs and were dancing in the rain as the band kicked on and kept everyone on the dance floor all night!
We didn’t have a wedding cake, we had a dessert grazing table full of sweet and savoury treats.
Our wedding style: That’s a hard one… Country luxe…
First dance song: We didn’t have one! We decided not to follow some of the traditional things people normally have at weddings.
Advice for future couples: Don’t do something just because that’s the way it ‘normally’ happens at a wedding and that’s how it’s shown on Pinterest. It’s your party so if you don’t want to follow traditional ways, don’t!
The day goes so quickly and it’s important to enjoy the company you have around you because it’s not very often that you get all of your favourite people in one place. We spent the whole night on the dance floor and all of our guests came up and joined us at some point which was great!
